Live in the library 16: Dennis Plutalov

Most of the clips of live music in libraries have been pop and rock music so far. Now, here’s something different. It’s piano player Dennis Plutalov, who performs at the Orlando Public Library.

If you find nice clips of live gigs in libraries please tell me in the comments! All songs will be tagged with “live in the library“.

Live in the library 6: Mika Miko – Wild Bore

Live gigs in the library seems to be almost always been held by musicians who like to play soft and quiet.
Mika Miko, a punk rock band from Los Angeles, USA, like it hard and loud and they proved that on April 20th, 2008 in the Los Angeles Central Library.

I’m not really sure if this song is called “Wild Bore” or “Capricorinations”. Los Angeles punk rock librarians, can you help me? And if you find other nice clips of live gigs in libraries please tell me in the comments! All songs will be tagged with “live in the library“.

Update: Sorry, I embedded the wrong video clip…

Live in the library 5: No Age – Sleeper Hold

No Age call themselves a experimental / powerpop / punk band (at least on MySpace). On April 20th, 2008 they performed live at the Los Angeles Central Library.

Live in the library obviously doesn’t have to be nice and quiet.

If you find other clips of live gigs in libraries please tell me in the comments! All songs will be tagged with “live in the library“.

Walt Crawford: The Liblog Landscape 2007-2008

Liblogs–blogs written by library people, as opposed to official library blogs–provide some of today’s most interesting and useful library literature. This book offers a broad look at English-language liblogs as they are and as they’ve changed between 2007 and 2008. The book includes more than 600 blogs with detailed analysis of 27 metrics for 2007 and 2008 and changes from 2007 to 2008–and, for 143 of them, 2006 as well. Through tables, charts and text, we explore the liblog landscape.

Finanzkrise = Bibliothekssterben?

Cutting 220 jobs throughout the city government, approximately one third of those layoffs will come from the library staff.

Sarah Palin feuerte Bibliothekarin

Shortly after becoming mayor, former city officials and Wasilla residents said, Ms. Palin approached the town librarian about the possibility of banning some books, though she never followed through and it was unclear which books or passages were in question.

Anne Kilkenny, a Democrat who said she attended every City Council meeting in Ms. Palin’s first year in office, said Ms. Palin brought up the idea of banning some books at one meeting. “They were somehow morally or socially objectionable to her,” Ms. Kilkenny said.

The librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, pledged to “resist all efforts at censorship,” Ms. Kilkenny recalled. Ms. Palin fired Ms. Emmons shortly after taking office but changed course after residents made a strong show of support. Ms. Emmons, who left her job and Wasilla a couple of years later, declined to comment for this article.

In 1996, Ms. Palin suggested to the local paper, The Frontiersman, that the conversations about banning books were “rhetorical.”

Dagegen war Bikinigate ja noch durchaus amüsant.
