Alles außer Hühnern

Auf der Webseite mit dem schönen Namen Every Topic in the Universe but Chicken wird eine Lösung für das Vandalismusproblem bei Wikipedia vorgeschlagen. Die nicht ganz ernste Idee lautet:

ALL WE NEED TO DO is direct our vandalism entirely to the article about chickens. Imagine a Wikipedia free of vandalism! A WIKIPEDIA FREE OF PAGES THAT SAY JODIE FOSTER IS HISTORY’S GREATEST VILLAIN. I like Jodie Foster. I think she’s great.

Friends, this goal is within reach. I give you a new Wikipedia. A Wikipedia evolved, a Wikipedia that lives here in the real world. A Wikipedia that makes just one tiny concession to vandals, a concession for the greater good. I give you Wikipedia 2.0, otherwise known as Wikipedia: Every Topic In The Universe, Except Chickens (Dot Com).

Citizendium ist online

Manche geben Wikipedia noch längstens 4 Jahre Überlebenszeit und starren gebannt auf den prophezeiten Niedergang. Larry Sanger, Wikipedia-Mitbegründer, hat sich zum Handeln entschlossen. Sein Gegenentwurf zur Wikipedia ist nun online: Citizendium.

Wie Heise schreibt, ist das Konzept dem der stabilen Version in Wikipedia recht ähnlich.

Der ursprüngliche Ansatz, einen Fork der Wikipedia zu begründen, um darauf aufbauend die Qualität zu verbessern, wurde aufgegeben:

We decided in mid-January to delete all unedited articles sourced from Wikipedia–as an experiment. While we’ve been quite happy with the activity on the pilot project, we think contributors might be more motivated if they were focused on writing their own articles and thereby creating their own culture. Sucht man in der Wikipedia nach Citizendium, wird man nur auf den Artikel über Larry Sanger weitergeleitet.

Wikipedia gefährdet?

“Wikipedia will fail in four years, crushed under the weight of an automated assault by marketers and others seeking online traffic” meint Eric Goldman, Rechtsprofessor an der Santa Clara University School of Law in einem Blogposting. Er gibt dem Projekt noch vier Jahre. Bei dem Blogposting handelt es sich um die Aktualisierung einer letztjährigen Prognose.
