Article Processing Charges von US$ 1750 sind zwar alles andere als günstig, aber die Preise werden durch PeerJ & Co mittelfristig ohnehin sinken.
SAGE hatte zwar “nur” Gebühren von m.W. etwa US$ 700, die Preissenkung der Autorengebühr ist dennoch deutlich. Aus einer Infomail von SAGE, in ähnlicher Formulierung auch in dieser Pressemitteilung enthalten:
Since our founding nearly fifty years ago, SAGE has championed social science research and recognized the crucial role social science plays in society. As the landscape of publishing continues to evolve, we have discounted the price of SAGE Open to $99 to make quality, peer reviewed open access publishing a more accessible option for researchers in the humanities and social sciences.
Genau US$ 99 sind es wohl nicht zufällig. Die genaue Summe ist auch fast egal. Wichtig ist das Signal: es geht offenbar auch deutlich günstiger als momentan meist üblich.
