Blogs als CMS für Studenten

„Blogs as a Student Content Management System“ ist der Titel eines Artikels von Rick Musser und Staci Martin-Wolfe, in dem sie berichten, wie news students der University of Kansas School of Journalism auf das Onlinepublizieren vorbereitet werden. Früher wurde ihnen Dreamweaver nahegebracht, mit der Folge, dass sich die Studenten überfordert fühlten: Dreamweaver proved to be too much program for the generic journalism student.

It was then that a light went on for us. Weblogs were, in fact, small content management systems. A Weblog (now more commonly known as a blog) was simply a Web-based publication system. Granted, blogs usually consisted of periodic articles (normally in reverse chronological order) that were more journal entries than news stories. But, we reasoned, there was no reason that blogging software couldn’t be used to do text, photo, audio, and video news. Since we first addressed the problem in 2004, events in the world of blogging have proved us more right than we could have ever known.

Friends kündigte einen OCLC-Report an, der inzwischen erschienen ist: Sharing, Privacy and Trust in Our Networked World

The practice of using a social network to establish and enhance relationships based on some common ground—shared interests, related skills, or a common geographic location—is as old as human societies, but social networking has flourished due to the ease of connecting on the Web. This OCLC membership report explores this web of social participation and cooperation on the Internet and how it may impact the library’s role, including:

* The use of social networking, social media, commercial and library services on the Web
* How and what users and librarians share on the Web and their attitudes toward related privacy issues
* Opinions on privacy online
* Libraries’ current and future roles in social networking

The report is based on a survey (by Harris Interactive on behalf of OCLC) of the general public from six countries—Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States—and of library directors from the U.S. The research provides insights into the values and social-networking habits of library users.

Technische Basis ist u.a. Gesammt wird u.a.:

Categories of sites captured include, but are not limited to: United States government (federal, state, district, local), foreign government, candidates for political office, political commentary, political party, media, religious organizations, support groups, tributes and memorials, advocacy groups, educational and research institutions, creative expressions (cartoons, poetry, etc.), and blogs.

World Digital Library

Aus der Projektbeschreibung der World Digital Library:

The World Digital Library will make available on the Internet, free of charge and in multilingual format, significant primary materials from cultures around the world, including manuscripts, maps, rare books, musical scores, recordings, films, prints, photographs, architectural drawings, and other significant cultural materials. The objectives of the World Digital Library are to promote international and inter-cultural understanding and awareness, provide resources to educators, expand non-English and non-Western content on the Internet, and to contribute to scholarly research.
